How do the coin tosses work?

Traditionally, three coins are tossed six times to build a 'hexagram' from the bottom up. Each toss results in either a solid line (Yang) or a broken line (Yin). The unique combination of these six lines identifies one of 64 hexagrams, each with its own specific wisdom.

What should I ask before casting?

The I Ching is best for questions about 'how' to approach a situation rather than 'yes or no' predictions. For example, 'How should I handle my current career transition?' or 'What is the underlying energy of this relationship?'

What does it mean if I get the same hexagram twice?

In I Ching practice, repeated hexagrams often suggest that the lesson or energy of that specific hexagram is critically important to your current path, and you should pay even closer attention to its judgment.

How it Works
